What is a Choice Point?

A Choice Point is a lens through which you can approach change - a moment to slow down just enough to notice what’s happening in your body, your thoughts, and your habits, and realise you have options. It’s the space where intentional change becomes possible.

These moments show up everywhere in daily life:

  • Reaching for sugar at 3pm when your energy crashes

  • When your body signals tension, fatigue, or overwhelm, and you choose whether to ignore it OR to listen and respond with care.

  • Choosing convenience food when you’re exhausted and short on time

  • Skipping movement or rest because everything feels “too hard”

None of these moments are failures; they’re choice points. And each one is an opportunity to respond with more insight, intention, and self-trust.

At Choice Point Health Coaching, I use this concept to gently help you move out of autopilot and back into awareness; to notice what’s happening within your body, or around you; to get curious and just sit with this for a while. What’s driving this craving? What is your body trying to tell you and what does it actually need right now? What choice would move you toward the life, health, and version of yourself that you most care about?

Why This Works….And Why Willpower Doesn’t!

If willpower was enough, you’d have solved this by now! Cravings aren’t a character flaw; they’re often your body responding to blood sugar swings, stress, and the ‘reward’ of highly palatable junk food. When we steady your energy, nourish you properly, and calm your nervous system, those intense urges begin to soften. Change feels more doable, not because you’re forcing it, but because your body finally feels supported.

The goal isn’t perfection or performance; it’s helping you become someone who can make values-aligned decisions with clarity and confidence, even in the messy, real moments of everyday life.

Choice Point Values

Client Autonomy & Choice

This is the heart of my coaching! I won’t tell you what to do; rather, I’ll help you to pause, reflect, and choose actions that move you toward the health and life you want. You remain in control of your choices, pace, and direction, with me as your guide.

Values-Led Behaviour Change

Sustainable change happens when actions align with personal values, not external rules. I’ll support you to connect your daily choices to what truly matters to you, and use your values as the compass for change.

Compassion Without Judgment

I create a safe, non-judgemental space where you can explore your habits and challenges honestly, without shame or pressure.

Empowerment Over Dependence

I’ll support you to build confidence, insight, and tools that can help you navigate challenges independently — long after our coaching ends.

Evidence-Based Coaching

Professional integrity is really important to me. My coaching blends metabolic nutrition science with best-practice behavioural and mental-wellness coaching techniques. Together, we can translate complexity into practical, doable steps that will help you move forward.

Holistic Perspective

My coaching recognises that food, energy, mood, stress, sleep, and lifestyle are all interconnected. My integrative approach reflects the food–mood–metabolism connection and supports your change across all these lifestyle foundations, not just what’s on your plate.

Your Health.

Your Choice.

Your Change.

Your Health. Your Choice. Your Change.

Hello,

I’m Miriam

Before becoming a Master Health Coach with a special interest in Nutrition and Metabolic health, I spent many years as a registered early childhood and early intervention teacher, supporting families with preschool children who had additional needs.

Alongside my teaching career, I spent decades playing ‘diet detective’ trying to improve my own health and cut back my reliance on high carb/sugary foods. Like many people, I followed the traditional ‘food guidelines’ — low fat, high carbohydrate, eat little and often (5-6 small meals a day), believing this misguided dietary advice was the ‘healthiest’ way to eat. Instead, I experienced ongoing carb cravings, feeling hungry every couple of hours, weight gain, fatigue and fluctuating energy levels, which I now understand would have likely been the blood sugar highs and lows that left my metabolism in tatters!! I’d never questioned the link between all this and my consumption of high carb foods - after all, this was the ‘correct’ way to eat, right?

Over the years, I became more and more curious about how to heal my body…. and was willing to try anything! I continued to be fascinated with the concept of 'food as medicine’ and the idea that lifestyle in general could act as a powerful form of medicine. What truly brought it all together was understanding the connection between blood sugar, insulin, brain chemistry, gut, and mindset.

For so many of us, struggles with food are not a lack of discipline; they’re a biological and psychological mismatch. When we understand this mismatch and address both of these pieces, change becomes possible.

To follow my lifelong passion for health and wellness I undertook formal training as a certified Master Health Coach through PREKURE, immersing myself in current health science and behaviour change. This included advanced training across Metabolic Nutrition Coaching and Mental Health Coaching, supported by over 100 hours of live coaching practice. I’m also registered with HCANZA (Health Coaches Australia & NZ Association) which ensures I continue to meet the high standards required of a professional health coach.

Today, my work is about empowering you to reconnect with your entire body, understand what it’s asking for, and build food and lifestyle habits that support your holistic wellness. No quick fixes — just small, realistic habit changes that create lasting success.

How We Work Together:

At the heart of my health coaching is the belief that you are capable, resourceful, and whole. You are the expert on your own life, experiences, and motivations.

As your Health Coach, I don’t tell you what to do, or hand you an eating plan. While those approaches can offer short-term structure, they often disconnect people from the very skills they need for long-term change. Instead, I support you through the messy middle-ground of behaviour change….the cravings, the slip-ups, the ‘I know better but still do it anyway’ moments….so you can add to the knowledge and skills you already have, achieve your goals and optimise your long-term health outcomes.

One key approach I use is “How can we collaboratively create a way of eating and living that supports your body, mind, values, and the life you actually want to live?” This approach helps you to remain curious and more intuitively connected to what your body needs, rather than handing over those decisions to a plan that may not fit your real life.

Coaching sessions typically integrate reflection, practical guidance, and simple next steps, so you leave feeling that you’ve achieved the outcome you wanted from the session, and are confident about what to focus on before we meet again.

PLEASE NOTE: Health coaching complements medical care and does NOT replace advice from your GP or specialist.

How This Fits Within My Wider Approach

Food is one important piece, but lasting change happens when the whole system is supported. Alongside food, I work with you to:

  • Stabilise blood sugar and metabolism
Outcome: Fewer energy crashes, more predictable hunger cues, and a noticeable reduction in urgent sugar and snack cravings.

  • Understand cravings through a nervous system and behaviour lens
Outcome: You’ll learn how your nervous system can trigger your cravings through stress, dopamine, fatigue, or emotional overload etc, and recognise those urges as signals; allowing you to meet those needs directly, instead of defaulting to junk food.

  • Strengthen self-trust and decision-making
Outcome: You’ll gain skills to pause, choose, and respond differently in key moments, so you can make food decisions that align with how you truly want to feel and live, not just what the craving demands.

  • Build supportive habits around sleep, movement, and stress
Outcome: Your body feels more well-regulated overall, making it easier to say no to junk food without relying on willpower.

  • Develop skills that hold up in real life
Outcome: Even when life gets busy or messy, you know how to get back on track without sliding into old ‘all-or-nothing’ patterns.

Book a Free 30 min Connect Call

We start with a relaxed, no-obligation conversation to explore what’s been going on for you — sugar cravings, energy dips, feeling stuck around food? This call is not a coaching session and we won’t be exploring your situation in depth or planning next steps. Rather, it’s a chance for you to be heard, ask questions, and see whether working together feels like the right fit.

02.

Choose Your Path Forward

From there, you choose the level of support that gives you the best chance of real, lasting change — whether you’re ready for a reset (Starting Point), stronger momentum (Turning Point), or deeper, long-term change (Mastery Point).

Commit to the Process (with Support)

This is where change happens. You show up to each session curious, open, and willing to try small, realistic shifts. I show up fully too — guiding the sessions, offering evidence-based insights and tools, and supporting you to stay focused, encouraged, accountable and moving forward in a way that fits with your lifestyle.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • My primary focus is 1-1 personalised health coaching sessions with you, in which you’ll explore a range of solutions designed to meet your needs—whether you're just getting started on your health journey or you’re needing follow-on support to maintain your success. Everything is tailored to help you move forward with clarity and confidence.

  • Getting started is simple. Reach out through my email or the contact form, or schedule a complimentary Connect Call here on my website. I’ll walk you through the next steps and answer any questions along the way.

  • What makes my approach different is that there are no pre-determined plans or rigid rules - you set the agenda, and we work with what feels most important in your real life. I take a holistic, evidence-informed view of cravings, seeing them not as a personal failure, but as patterns shaped by our biology, stress, and environment. Having successfully overcome my own ‘sweet tooth’, I support you with empathy and zero shame so you can create meaningful, sustainable change at your own pace.

  • You can reach me anytime via my contact page or email. I aim to respond quickly, usually within one business day. I look forward to hearing from you.

  • Health coaching isn’t prescriptive or rule-based - you stay in control. I support you to make informed, realistic choices that fit your lifestyle, values, and goals. You drive the bus; I just help you get to your destination, choosing the path that’s right for you.

  • Food often becomes a coping tool when life feels overwhelming. My scope of practice is to support people with mild to moderate mental wellness challenges - if this is you, we can gently explore other ways to help you feel steadier and supported without taking comfort away before you’re ready. If you feel you need a higher level of more targeted support for your current mental wellness, we can have a chat about whether you may like to consider seeing a qualified mental health professional, either instead of, or alongside health coaching.

  • You don’t have to. The focus is on awareness, patterns, and feeling better — not numbers, rules, or restrictions.

  • You’re not alone…. and there’s no judgement here. This is a safe, supportive space to share as much or little as you feel comfortable with, and to be honest and curious about your challenge, not to feel criticised or ‘fixed’.

  • Many approaches focus on food ‘rules’, whereas I help you unpack why you eat the way you do and what your body actually needs, as well as helping you identify behaviours around food that you’d like to change. That’s where real, lasting change happens.

  • I’m a certified Master Health Coach trained through PreKure, a leading provider of evidence-based health and lifestyle medicine education, both in New Zealand and overseas. I work strictly within a clear Scope of Practice, focusing on lifestyle and behaviour change rather than diagnosis or treatment. I’m also a current, professional member of Health Coaches Australia and New Zealand Association (HCANZA), which requires annual membership, adherence to ethical standards, and ongoing professional learning and development, so you can feel confident you’re working with a qualified, ethical, and evidence-informed health coach.
